The role of rest and sleep for the performance of the functions of participation in high risk operation by the operators in STU

Summary/Abstract: Special Tactical Units within the Department of the Interior are law enforcement teams whose members are selected, trained and equipped to resolve critical incidents, including threats to public safety, that would otherwise be beyond the ability of regular law enforcement to respond first. Operators from STU sectors are exposed to extremely high stress, huge expenditure of energy due to the metabolic processes taking place in their bodies, which further increases the risk to their life and health. Poor sleep and lack of rest is associated with poor health outcomes, reduced wellbeing, and reduced productivity and workplace safety.
