Summary/Abstract: The article examines the role of fleet partners (intermediaries) in the process of professionalising app-based taxi driviers in Poland. It outlines key milestones in the development cycle of platform work in Poland and discusses the role fleet partners play within it. The analysis draws on Max Weber’s concept of the development of ‘cottage industry’, or outwork, comparing the evolution of platform work with traditional forms of labour organisation. The research is based on in-depth individual interviews conducted with fleet partners in 2023. The findings indicate that fleet partners play a crucial role in the centralisation and formalisation of work, contributing to the professionalisation of the on-demand driver profession, as well as to the expansion of platforms such as Uber in the Polish market. Additionally, an original typology of fleet partners in Poland is presented, which facilitates the differentiation of the business models they employ.
