Summary/Abstract: This article discusses three fantasias on national themes: “Pot-pourris” in C major, Op. 10 and in B flat major, Op. 11 by A.F. Duranowski, and the “Pot-pourri” in B flat major, Op. 12 by F. Lessel. Analysis reveals the affinities between the works in terms of thematic material, formal structure and distinctive composition techniques. Historical and analytical evidence forms the basis for an hypothesis about the chronology of these compositions. The study draws on Czerny’s theoretical approaches to the fantasia. Additionally, the paper examines the transformation of concert life in Warsaw and Europe at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
