Summary/Abstract: Corruption leads to inefficiency in spending public funds, with a significant part of the budget deviating for unlawful purposes. This leads to a shortage of funds for key public services such as healthcare, education and infrastructure, which on the other hand reduces the economic sustainability and stability of the country. Corruption in public finance management is a serious obstacle to the economic development and financial stability of countries that seek to join the Eurozone. Bulgaria faces many challenges in fight against corruption, including institutional weakness, political instability and public distrust of institutions. This article examines the role of corruption in the public sector in Bulgaria and its influence on the country's efforts to join the Eurozone, analyzing the current state, the main challenges and the possible solutions.
