Summary/Abstract: The academic study of „Medieval Theatre” began in the late 19th century, challenging Enlightenment views of the Middle Ages as a „Dark Age.” Scholars focused on material evidence, like manuscripts and artefacts, to understand the period. The present paper examines the development of medieval theatre studies in modern Britain, emphasizing Latin language productions and how evolving archival practices and ideologies have influenced the understanding of medieval performance.
