Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the spread of intellectual and spiritual heritage of the Fathers of the Church in Lithuania in 1918–1990 – during two essentially different consecutive periods of the history of Lithuania. Attention to patristic literature during the times of the First Republic of Lithuania is, first and foremost, associated with the activities of M. Morkelis and A. Maceina following his footsteps. Despite the main differences in the environment, in certain cases both periods featured the continuity of tradition (for instance, attention to the School of Alexandria). After showing a peculiar theological conservativeness of all elements of the Church of Lithuania (emigration / occupied Lithuania, fighters / collaborators) determined by the need to protect from the atheist government, which was also characteristic of the anthology of patristic texts compiled in exile by J. Gutauskas, the author discusses the late impact of the resssourcement (‘back to the sources’) movement and its modest fruits provided by a circle of Kaunas Catholic intellectuals in the 1970s (V. Ališauskas, G. Beresnevičius, P. Kimbrys, R. Dulskis, etc.).
