Summary/Abstract: This article presents the traits of society modernisation in the Russian Empire during the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century, revealed after the examination of statistical data of convicts which was registered in the journals issued by the Ministry of Justice of Imperial Russia. The author used the methods of analysis and synthesis, statistical and comparative methods to review and compare the changing social profile of the convicts from different areas of the European part of the Russian Empire. The research enabled the conclusive data tables presenting various social indicators of convicted persons in 1884, 1897 and 1912.
