Summary/Abstract: The castle in Starogród near Chełmno was built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order. After the Kingdom of Poland took over the fortress in 1505, it was offered by King Alexander Jagiellon to the bishops of Chełmno. The castle chapel, located upstairs in the south-west corner, continued to serve a religious function. Despite the numerous construction works carried out on the castle after the damage caused by the Thirteen Years’ War and the Swedish Deluge, it retained its Gothic architectural character. The property was sold and then demolished shortly after the First Partition of Poland. Among the files from the Chełmno Parish Church Archives, now stored in the Archives of Historical Records of the Diocese of Toruń, a 1685 inventory of the temple, hitherto unknown to researchers of the subject, was found. The document, drawn up shortly after the chapel’s restoration on the initiative of Bishop Kazimierz Jan Opaliński, lists the chapel’s furnishings.
