Summary/Abstract: Given the changing employment landscape, the European Union must support the personal development and empowerment of young people, strengthen their resilience and equip them with the resources to participate in society, thus contributing to the eradication of youth poverty and all forms of discrimination and promoting social inclusion. Given that responsibility for education and training systems lies with the Member States, this article aims to examine the EU’s key role in supporting and complementing their efforts to improve and modernize their education systems, to achieve the European Education Area, given that education is essential for the vitality of European society and economy, and how the current and future challenges facing young people across Europe are being addressed through the implementation of the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027. The article also analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Europe’s education and training systems, in a context where education is at the heart of the European way of life, strengthening the social market economy and democracy through freedom, diversity, human rights and social justice. Education must promote intercultural competences, democratic values and respect for fundamental rights, prevent and combat all forms of discrimination and racism, and equip children, young people and adults with the ability to interact positively with their peers from different backgrounds.
