Summary/Abstract: Eurovision began as a singing competition with the aim of connecting and uniting the participating countries. It was originally conceived as an apolitical event. However, in the past decade, we have seen a significant shift in the perception of what constitutes a Eurovision song and the growing importance of the song’s message. This difference has become evident in the notable disparity between jury and public voting. The purpose of this paper is to examine how Eurovision has evolved as a competition to this day and to explore the political and social factors that have influenced this development. The goal of the research is to understand young people’s views on Eurovision and what they consider to be its most important aspect—whether it’s entertainment, politics, or something entirely different. Research conducted through an online questionnaire revealed that young people indeed attribute more political significance to the competition than older generations, but primarily view Eurovision as an entertaining event with mostly positive connotations. Given the lack of research on Eurovision conducted online, it would be desirable for similar studies to be carried out on a larger sample to further investigate the gender-based differences among respondents who participated in the research online and at live events.
