Summary/Abstract: The Lazaruvane is common Bulgarian custom. Its essence and similar ritual trend appears in various forms, typical for the individual areas of the Bulgarian ethnical territory. The basic meaning of this spring feast is poetically transferred in many songs. As a regional variation, the custom of Lazaruvane in Dobrudza is extremely picturesque and interesting. The song repertoire of the Dobrudzha’s Lazarki is distinguished with particular richness and diversity. The above is applied both to the musical characteristics, and the thematic content of the songs. The themes and motives, included and represented by the songs, determine their place and functions in the custom and the ritual practices.
