Summary/Abstract: Railway and road crossings are places of constant danger for the safety of participants in road and railway traffic, because there is a possibility of physical contact between moving means of transport, where the consequences in the event of a collision are very severe due to the different speeds and masses of the vehicles, and where road users are mostly injured. Extraordinary events on the ŽCP, which result in deaths, account for an average of 30 percent of all accidents in railway traffic, but only about one percent of accidents in road traffic. The subject of research in this paper is the analysis of the state of safety on the ŽCP in the Republic of Croatia (RO). The aim of the paper is to determine the state of safety on the ŽCP in the Republic of Croatia, i.e. to determine the influence of the human factor and insurance methods on the occurrence of extraordinary events with fatal consequences and seriously injured persons. The working hypothesis is that, in most cases, serious accidents with fatal consequences occur on ŽCP provided with signal-safety devices (SS-devices), and accidents with seriously injured persons on ŽCP provided with traffic signs (PZ), due to human error on the part of ŽCP users. In order to support the hypothesis, scientific methods of analysis and synthesis, descriptive method, induction and deduction method and comparative method were used in the paper. The research results are based on secondary data sources for the period from 2014 to 2023.
