Challenges to the energy sector in Poland in the perspective of the EU climate policy – selected problems

Summary/Abstract: The paper comprises basic problems related to the structural changes of the Polish energy sector. Basic conditions connected with the necessity to restructure the sector are discussed in the introduction. The second part is focused on the presentation of basic goals and actual reference values of coefficients to be monitored in the context of EU climate policy. It defines the energy policy strategy till 2030 in some official documents. The third part covers a very disadvantageous in comparison to the EU average Polish situation regarding energy efficiency which is a consequence of adverse energy production structure dominated by traditional sources especially coal and lignite. The main conclusions of research are presented in the last part.
