Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to discuss current investment projects of the countries located in the region between the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea, referred to as the Three Seas Initiative countries. The subject matter concerning new international railway connections in this region, especially that linked Poland with neighboring countries, is of decisive integration importance. Since in recent years in Poland there has been a lot of discussions about the large project of constructing the Central Communication Port (pl. Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, CPK), this project is a special point of reference, because its implementation in the future (at least the most important part of the expanded railway component) will primarily affect Poland’s new international railway connections with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on the one side, and with Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary on the other side. However, the projects of integration of the railway network will also influence countries far away from Poland: Finland – in the North, Slovenia and Romania – in the South. The research problem of the article is to indicate the significance of the analysed railway investments in the following dimensions: socio-economic, geopolitical, and defensive dimension. The solution to this problem will be sought mainly in the analysis of the concept of constructing a new railway line connecting Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas, Białystok, Warsaw and Berlin (called Rail Baltica) and in the plans of modernisation of other cross-border railway connections to the standard of high-speed railway lines. The main research method is a critical analysis of the official governmental strategic documents and available literature on the subject, as well as own observations. The content of the article allows readers to know about the basic directions of development of the railway network in the Three Seas Initiative countries.
