Valuation and linguistic determinants of value in promotion reviews

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the methodology and preliminary findings of research on evaluation and its linguistic indicators, using reviews in advancement proceedings as a case study. The analysis focuses on habilitation reviews in the discipline of linguistics, obtained from the archive of the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles. The main research corpus consists of 91 reviews with negative conclusions and a reference corpus of 92 reviews with positive conclusions. The primary objective of the research is to assess the feasibility of using corpus methods for analyzing advancement review texts. The research problem encompasses identifying elements subject to evaluation, particularly negative evaluations, the criteria for such evaluations, and the linguistic means and techniques used for evaluation. The research methodology is primarily based on comparative corpus analysis, supplemented by collocation and concordance analysis. The results obtained confirm the feasibility of applying this method to analyze a broader set of texts, also enabling further in-depth analyses of subsequent documents.
