Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history and significance of the Rybałt Theater, the first professional theater for working-class audiences directed by a woman in interwar Warsaw. Stanisława Wysocka, an established director and actress, initiated this activity as a response to the theatrical crisis, offering an alternative to naturalism and traditional repertoire. The author discusses how the theater functioned in 1925-1926, analyzing its repertoire, its activities in various districts of Warsaw and its tours around Poland. Wysocka shaped a new type of actor and spectator, emphasizing aesthetic and emotional education of the audience. The article highlights Rybalt’s financial and organizational difficulties, as well as its relationship with other theater projects of the era, such as Leon Schiller’s Teatr im. Bogusławskiego and Witold Wandurski’s initiatives. Based on rich source material, including letters, reviews and memoirs, the author reconstructs the theater’s activities and points to its unique contribution to the development of Polish theater.
