Summary/Abstract: Based on Françoise Zamour's reflection, this article aims to analyze how the French director Patrice Chéreau stages the impotence of Theseus in Jean Racine's Phèdre. Dressed in red, the monarch appears bent and broken. He is a tragic hero who sacrificed his son on the altar of slander and silence. Such a reading allows us to question the embodiment of power. We will study the character's progression to show how royal arrogance gradually gives way to sadness and dismay resulting from the death of a young man wrongly accused by a fallacious discourse.
