Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the real possibilities and the ultimate reach of the Venetian authorities in Dalmatia in suppressing the plague, which was present in certain parts of the Bosnian Pashaluk since 1793. In her work, the author analyzes the position of Venice at the end of the 18th century with special reference to the changes that occurred in its immediate environment caused by the revolution in France, and, later, the appearance of Napoleon Bonaparte. The specific extents of the Venetian health policy is analyized through the success of the implementation of the sanitary cordon towards the Ottoman state. The last Venetian providor of Dalmatia, Andrea Querini, managed to improve the sanitary cordon by increasing the number of checkpoints compared to the situation that prevailed in the middle of the 18th century. At the end of 1795, Jovan Sinobad, Franjo Daneze and the medic Masimo Nikolić were sent to the Bosnian Pashaluk to determine the nature of the epidemic. Based on their report, a sanitary cordon is implemented. From the beginning of 1796, the consequences of the penetration of the French army into northern Italy began to be felt in Dalmatia, due to which the Venetian authorities were forced to recruit soldiers among its inhabitants for the needs of the defense of Terraferma. This undoubtedly influenced Querinis decision in May 1796 to end the application of sanitary measures. Then, the village guards in its composition were also disbanded. This also facilitated the movement of residents on the border, which, contrary to the expectations of the Venetian authorities, led to the appearance of the plague in two villages of the Imotski Krajina. Suppression of the plague in the Imotski Krajina was left to the providor of Imotski, Vicenac Bemba. He ordered that two villages in Imotski (Ričice and Proložac) be quarantined, which successfully suppressed the plague.
