Summary/Abstract: The great painter Boris Denev (1883–1969) is a significant figure in our cultural and artistic history of the first half of the 20th century, a renowned master of landscape, associated with the charm of his native Tarnovo. Amid the many and varied fields in which he excelled during his turbulent and dramatic life, his work as an applied graphic artist and illustrator of children’s books have not been the focus of special research interest. This article aims to “bring to light” an unknown aspect of the artist’s work, related to his collaboration with the distinguished writer and poet Dora Gabe. The article focuses on the illustration of part of the bibliophile series “Library for the Little Ones” (39 separate books in total), published between 1925 and 1931. It is interesting to trace Deneuve’s illustrations for each of the four writers on whose works he worked. One of the books is by Dora Gabe herself, while the others are by Angel Karaliychev, Kalina Malina and the lesser-known Iliko Kurguli.
