Summary/Abstract: Boris Denev (1883–1969) is a significant figure in Bulgarian cultural and artistic history in the first half of the 20th century. He is a famous and great master of the landscape, whose art is mainly associated with the romance and charm of his native town Tarnovo. Against the background of the many and varied fields in which he manifested himself throughout his turbulent and dramatic life, his work as an applied graphic artist and illustrator remains tangential to the research interest of scholars. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to draw the attention to the illustrator Boris Denev, more specifically to his drawings to the verses, revealed in the pages of the luxurious three-volume poetic edition Children of the Balkans (1928–1930) by the eminent Bulgarian poet Kiril Hristov (1975–1944). It is not a coincidence that the choice of the topic is focused on a lesser-known but extremely valuable publication, which so far has not been the subject of a separate study by specialists in the field. The text will follow closely the work in the book: the context of its creation from political, social and cultural points of view; significant biographical data of both artists, related to the publication; the artistic cooperation, the holistic view of the connection between order and realization of a product, as well as the connection between text and image and, respectively, between a poet and an artist. The selected images will be analyzed from a thematic, artistic and technique point of view. The forgotten collection of poems by Kiril Hristov is an expression of the poetic and artistic achievements of two famous Bulgarians artists from the last century, which sets many research links and points of interest today.
