Summary/Abstract: This paper presents summing up of the author`s decades long researches on the subject of conversion to Islam, and consequently the classification of population in the Ottoman Empire. It has the aim to present a base for further studies, giving the main characteristics of the social and confessional diversification (as the author sees it) in the manner of synthesis. This does not mean that this is the „last word “on the subject, but just the ground and encouragement to proceed further on in enlightening of this very important issue.
