Summary/Abstract: This paper has the aim to present the travelling conditions through the Ottoman Empire in the period from 16th to 18th century, as well as personalities of the travelers and their reasons to undertake such a task. In order to describe the atmosphere of the time, in this paper are used the direct quotation from their published works and notes. It has been emphasized that such works are valuable historical source for evaluation of private and every day life. Special attention was given to the organization of travels in the Ottoman Empire, which dictated the living conditions of the population living in the settlements nearby the main roads. Also, in this paper has been described the major means of trans- portation, accommodation and food used by the travelers while on the road.
