Summary/Abstract: In this paper we analyzed important issues from the history of the Principality of Serbia in the break-up years aft er the beginning of the Crimean War. Serbia was exposed to numerous diplomatic pressures, both by Russia, the Habsburg Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire, but also in the almost constant danger from the Austrian occupation. We tried to show how Serbian statesmen and politicians were looking at political events and how they had a way out of many dangers. Although the removal of the direct danger to Serbia was apparent from the second half of 1854, the Principality was embroiled in an internal political discord, which ruined the regime and practically led to the replacement of Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic.
