Summary/Abstract: The North-East region of Oltenia, in which is situated almost all the territory of Vâlcea Conty, was essential for the connection between the Danube and the Intra-Carpathian area. Numerous routes were established along the rivers that cross the hilly zone, the most important one following the Olt River course. Very important for the region economy and political development was, also, the rich salt deposits situated in the Ocnele Mari region. Here an important Dacian centre aroused at the end of the IInd century BC, dominating this region of Oltenia until the roman conquest of Dacia. Because of such great importance of this area, the coin presence was significant, numerous hoards with coins made in Celtic style being found here. Unfortunately, just one hoard is fully kept in the Vâlcea County Museum’s collection, another three being present with just a few coins. Even so, the Vâlcea County Museum’s collection can present an interesting section in the local coin presence for the period between IInd-Ist century BC.
