Renewal of Theology in Light of the Document of the International Theological Commission “Theology Today: Perspectives, Principles, Criteria”

Summary/Abstract: Theology does not exist in a vacuum separated from cultural, social,and historical contexts; on the contrary, it is deeply embedded in these reSecond Vatican Council, which initiated significant transformations in thelife of the Church, including in the sphere of theology, maintaining unity inthe reflection on faith has become a critical challenge. In response to thesechallenges, the International Theological Commission developed a documenttitled “Theology Today: Perspectives, Principles, Criteria,” whichaims to define ways to maintain unity in theology by basing it on common,universal foundations. This article seeks to present the perspectives, principles,and criteria that contemporary Catholic theology should follow, accordingto the guidelines contained in the document. The analysis will takethe form of a general presentation of the basic pillars of theology, their analysis,and comparison with the literature on the subject.
