Summary/Abstract: The Operettacountry (or Operettaland), written by Hungarian journalist and music theatre critic Ferenc László, includes 15 career portraits from the history of the Austro-Hungarian operetta. The following review of the book makes a well-founded attempt to refute what the author claims, namely that his work is a reliable dissemination of knowledge in which he aims to clear up some misbeliefs and misunderstandings connected to significant figures of the operetta scene at the turn of the 20th century. Furthermore, the review underlines the fact, stated by the author himself, that Operettacountry is not a work written with scientific rigour and contrasts Ferenc László’s work with Moritz Csáky’s insight from his The Ideology of Operetta and Viennese Modernity.
