Normative Regulation Of Tourism Statistics

Summary/Abstract: Tourism remains one of the leading factors in the development of any national or world economy. The basis of the research is an overview of the main methodological developments of the world, European and Bulgarian organizations and institutions, referred to the statistics of tourism. Based on a brief historical review of the initiatives of international organizations related to the development of methodological guidelines in the field of tourism statistics, the fundamental developments of the UN World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism, former UNWTO), the normative documents adopted in the European Union in the field of tourism statistics and the methodologies that the National Statistical Institute applies in its practice are presented in more detail s. The main goal is to highlight the common features and differences between the forms of normative regulation in national and international context. It is established that the harmonization of the national guidelines for tourism statistics in Bulgaria with a number of international and European organizations such as the OECD, Eurostat and the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations (UN Tourism) allows the acquisition of reliable statistical information while at the same time increasing the possibilities for the implementation of complex and effective benchmarking.
