Statistical Analysis Of The Dynamics Of Inbound Tourism In Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: Tourism is one of the leading factors for the development of the economy. This fact is noted and asserted in a number of national strategic documents. In the present study, incoming tourism in Bulgaria for the period from 2008 to 2021 is analysed by modelling the dynamics of individual types of visits by foreign tourists according to the reasons for visiting. Along with this, the position of Bulgaria in the international tourist market in terms of the contribution of tourism to the gross domestic product is also monitored. The results show that, despite the many expectations and initiatives by national and local governing bodies, Bulgarian tourism has experienced serious difficulties in recent years and has begun to lose its positions on international markets. These processes have intensified even more under the influence of the pandemic related to the spread of Covid-19.
