Summary/Abstract: Words are a key tool in a teacher’s work, particularly in the descrip-tive assessment of behavior, which is included in pupils’ school reports.They are also essential in supporting the development of children’sself-esteem. The aim of the article is to present the results of a qual-itative study on teachers’ practices for boosting pupils’ self-­ esteemwhen formulating descriptive assessments of behavior on school cer-tificates, with particular attention to practices that may hinder thedevelopment of children’s self-esteem. The study was carried out us-ing the document analysis method. The author analyzed 300 schoolcertificate sheets from the first stage of education in the 2022/2023school year, focusing on the descriptive behavioral assessments con-tained therein. This article not only discusses the research findings but also offers conclusions drawn from the analysis and provides recom-mendations that may inspire reflection for both teachers and research-ers interested in assessing pupils’ behavior.
