Normative tongue resting position. A preliminary study with the use of EMA and CBCT technology

Summary/Abstract: The goal of this study is to scrutinise the mechanism referred to as the resting positionof the stomatognathic system. The resting position is shaped and stabilized by the tongue. The study references selected currently available literature on the subject to analyseresults of the resting position examination with the use of objective instrumentaltechnology. Further in the article, the methods and results of a case study conductedby the authors are reported. Objective instrumental techniques used for the purposeof the case study include electromagnetic articulography (EMA) and cone-beam computedtomography (CBCT). The undertaken study allowed the authors to provide a descriptionof the normative tongue resting position and its schematic reconstructions.
