Summary/Abstract: The current paper summarises the results of a study on the cult of Nike (Viktoria) in the province of Thrace. Both epigraphic and archaeological data are used; they are interpreted using iconographic, stylistic, and quantitative analysis. In the course of the research, it is proposed that Nike was overall poorly revered in Thrace with the exception of the biggest city in the province, Philippopolis, where she was worshipped privately. Actually, the majority of finds representing the goddess have no relation to her cult but are due to the Greco-Roman decorative art traditions. The situation with the finds from Thracian necropolises is the most problematic one: whether Nike was recognised by the local aristocracy as a deity bestowing victory remains a mystery.
