Summary/Abstract: The objective of this article is to present the diagnostic process for oropharyngeal dysphagia in the COVID–19 disease, based on available scientific publications and guidelines developed by associations of speech therapists worldwide. COVID–19 is an acute infectious respiratory disease caused by infection with the SARS-CoV–2 virus. The course of the disease can vary from asymptomatic carrier state to fatal respiratory failure. Swallowing disorders are a common symptom among patients hospitalized with COVID–19. Dysphagia has been shown to be an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality, prolonged hospitalization, and is associated with an unfavorable prognosis. For patients with COVID–19, it is very important to correctly identify the swallowing disorder, determine the mechanism leading to its development and initiate appropriate therapy. This will prevent serious complications of dysphagia that pose a threat to the patient’s health and life.
