Summary/Abstract: Maritime liens on a sea-going ship exist for claims arising from contributions forsocial insurance of the ship’s crew. Maritime liens on ships arise in favour of the ship’screw, and not in favour of the employer or the person who pays the salary on his behalf.The Republic of Croatia as a creditor, belongs to the category of other creditors underArticle 912. 1.4 of the Maritime Code, which means that its claims are not secured bymaritime privilege. Maritime liens on a ship cease to exist after the expiration of oneyear. The time period is counted from the discharge of the ship’s crew. After the expirationof one year, the absolute termination of the privilege occurs, which means that theright of lien no longer belongs to any subject.
