Summary/Abstract: In compliance with the effective legislation (“Higher Education Act no. 199/2023”), in Romania, students are the direct beneficiaries of the educational process and learning must be centred on the student, on their needs and interests, as set forth by the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. This aspect requires appropriate recruitment and development of the teaching staff who are familiar with and employ in a flexible manner diverse, modern and interactive teaching methods that motivate the students to learn, but also objective criteria and proper techniques for student assessment. This article reflects the author's experience as an ARACIS (the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) evaluator, but also his skills developed following the completion of the “Quality, Innovation, Communication in the system of continuous training of higher education teaching staff” postgraduate programme organised by the Ministry of Education (in Romania). The higher education teaching staff must periodically participate in training sessions towards the improvement of their teaching and assessment competencies. During the assessment of the university programmes of studies and during institutional evaluations, Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) analyses the compliance with the legal provisions and focuses on the level of satisfaction of the students in Romania in terms of their academic experience.
