Reception and Translation of Claire Keegan

Summary/Abstract: The following work examines the translations and the media and audience reception of Irish writer Claire Keagan’s work both in the English-speaking world and in Bulgaria. The text presents the specific characteristics of Keegan’s language and style that make her one of the most prominent voices on the contemporary literary stage. Various extra-literary factors which account for the author’s positive reception are also highlighted – including, for example, the influence of the Booker Prize. The text critically examines the Bulgarian translations of the works “Small Things Like These” and “Foster” with specific examples.
