EDITORIAL REVIEW OF THE SCIENTIFIC MONOGRAPH BY PROFESSOR DR. HAB. WOJCIECH CYNARSKI TITLED KARATE IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF ANTHROPOLOGY

Summary/Abstract: The reviewed scientific monograph by Professor Wojciech Cynarski isa groundbreaking work in the field of martial arts research, in particular thephenomenon of karate-do. The work presents a holistic, anthropocentricand interdisciplinary approach to the subject, combining psycho-social,socio-cultural, philosophical and anthropological perspectives. The author,based on his own concept of the Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts andSports (HTSSW), presents karate as a path of personal improvement andan educational and upbringing vehicle, and not only a form of sports com-petition. The monograph not only systematises the knowledge of martialarts, but also brings new values to the area of social sciences and physicalculture sciences, especially in the Polish and European context. The reviewhighlights the educational and axiological dimension of the monograph,which can serve both the academic community and martial arts practi-tioners. The monograph deserves to be recognised as a key work in the Polish scientific literature, filling important gaps in the research on thekarate-do phenomenon.
