Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to bring forward, once again, one of the first Romanian geopolitical projects, The United States of the Orient, first proposed in 1924, underpinned by an ideology that fully complemented the national ideal, that of European unification. The advocate for the integration of Romania in such a novel structure was the politician Octavian C. Tãslãuanu (1876–1942). Investigating the intricacies and intimacies of Tãslãuanu’s deepest and sincerest beliefs, put to paper during the 1920s and 1930s, we discovered an unexpected substantiality of European integration tendencies, something that has now been confirmed by a geopolitical situation in which the Eu- ropean Union struggles with unprecedented economic woes, following Brexit and the covid-19 pandemic, as well as the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The reason behind this review of Octavian C. Tãslãuanu’s work lies in the fact that Romania is finally on the verge of becoming part of the Schengen Area. Thus, with time on our side, we can provide a general overview on the manner in which the European idea has been perceived, promoted and nurtured by the Romanian intelligentsia.
