Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses a batch of faunal skeletal remains from a pit attributed to the Precucuteni culture, identified on the Movila Cremenea tell at Gherăseni (Buzău County). The archaeological deposit is about 2.5 m thick, comprising a cemetery dated to the late Mediaeval period, several habitation levels attributed to the Gumelnița / Stoicani-Aldeni culture and a Precucuteni level, which represents the oldest habitation on the tell. From this level, a burnt dwelling, partially uncovered in the excavation, and a pit, which is the subject of discussion in the present study, have been investigated thus far. Of these, 251 faunal remains have been studied, of which 246 are exclusively mammalian, three are gastropod remains, and the remaining specimens are two shells (Unio pictorum and Unio sp.).
