Summary/Abstract: Most dictionaries define the old man only in his personal relationship with time and his biological functions. However, the Holy Scripture and patristic writings define and highlight the old man in his personal relationship with God - his Creator. For us Christians, old age does not mean the first steps towards the grave, but the first steps towards eternity. The old man is a flower from the spring of eternity. Through His coming into the world, Christ frees man from the burden of time; years are no longer a burden (a weight), they are God's blessing for man.
