Summary/Abstract: In recent years, the notion of the „Asian Century”, associated with the growingrole of Asian economies in the global economy, has gained in popularity. This is causingthe centre of gravity of global production and consumption to shift towards Asia, whichis gradually replacing Western countries in their previous economic leadership. In theface of these trends, the article presents arguments for the need to intensify Polishrelations with Asian economies. These include a shared history of development basedon industrial subcontracting, the need to develop a new model of development, amutual understanding of regional geopolitical tensions, a positive image of Poland inAsia, or cultural convergence. Poland should, above all, intensify its exports in theAsian direction, as well as develop mutual exchange of know-how, technology andcapital through foreign direct investment. This will make it possible to continue thedynamic development of the Polish economy, one of the main risks of which is thepetrification of a competitive advantage based on industrial subcontracting for EUcountries.
