Summary/Abstract: There is indeed almost always, according to P.-M. Schuhl, a continuity between religion and philosophy, even when they oppose each other; 'logos gradually defines itself in relation to myth; and religious anxieties extend into philosophical problems, where they are transposed into new forms.' On the other hand, the anthropologist declares himself incapable of making an intellectual or moral judgment on the values of another belief system: 'Anthropologists forbid themselves out of respect for the peoples they study to make judgments about the comparative value of the culture of some and others... because a culture cannot escape from itself, and its appreciation remains consequently a prisoner of a relativism against which there is no recourse.
