Summary/Abstract: The English language, whose roots date back to the fifth century AD, has spread beyond the British Isles to become a truly global lingua franca. The Global Englishes for Language Teaching framework was developed as a response to the ever-changing situation of the language in the world. This paper does not aim to promote this approach, but rather to introduce it to a wider readership and encourage further discussion.
