GUIDELINES FOR THE CLERGY IN THE CORRESPONDENCE OF ST. JEROME

Summary/Abstract: Jerome’s correspondence with people fromvarious social groups played an important rolein his work. In this study, only letters addressedto clergy were analyzed in order to indicate whatadvice the Doctor of the Church gives them. Theconclusions reached point to two types: warningsand encouragements. In this way, Jerome leads theclergy of his time to remove or avoid vices fromtheir lives and to practice virtues. The researchalso showed that the teaching addressed to clergycontained in Strydonian’s letters cannot be consi-dered a complete form of a rule of life.
