“Pretty fast evolution”: Introduction to the Analysis of Pandemic Changes in Young Adult Literature in Poland

Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the post-pandemic changes in the young adult book marketin Poland, both in terms of Polish books and translated foreign titles. The thesis ofthe text posits that changes in this segment began after the post-1989 democratictransition, when books from the USA reached Poland and then became a point of reference for a new generation of readers born in a free country. The author high-lights the pandemic period as a key stage in the transformation of young adult lit-erature due to the noticeable increase in reader interest during this time and the in-tensified efforts of publishers. These transformations primarily involve changesin the way of thinking about the publishers of young adult literature, which beganto be treated as brands, the development of bookmedia (such as Bookstagram andBookTok), and the emergence of Polish authors from the Wattpad platform onthe book market.
