Summary/Abstract: This study is concerned with one of Poland’s majorpolitical parties – Civic Platform (CP). Formedin 2001, it represents the liberal strain of Polishpolitical thought. The Civic Platform was theruling party between 2007 and 2015. For theninth term of the Polish Parliament, it formed theCivic Coalition parliamentary group together withModern, the Polish Initiative, and the Greens. Thisstudy explores the question of CP politicians’ per-ceptions of the security of Poland in the context ofthe war in Ukraine. It takes a closer look at Polishliberals’ assessment of the international situationand their diagnosis of the threats faced by Poland.Their outlook on political and military security isdiscussed as well, as is their attitude towards thesteps taken by the Polish authorities after February24, 2022. State security – defined as a conditionobtained through effectively implemented defenceand protection measures against a variety of mil-itary and non-military threats – was the mainresearch category. State security may be considereda critical component of the raison d’état. It is alsoa key challenge for those in power.
