Summary/Abstract: The topic chosen for this essay brings to the fore some changes in the field of doctoral studies made by the adoption of the Law on Higher Education No. 199/2023. Also, the essay writing meets the knowledge needs of the first year PhD student regarding the writing of the PhD thesis. Finally, as a result of the subject "Deontology of scientific research activity", the rhetorical question regarding the belonging of the doctoral thesis arose, a question that generated the analysis of the moral dilemma of the PhD student. The essay is designed and structured in three parts:– A first technical/procedural part in which the stages of the PhD thesis are briefly presented. This section briefly outlines the duties of the academic integrity and guidance committee, the PhD thesis public presentation committee and the CNATDCU.– A part in which ethical and deontological issues such as the originality and scientific value of a PhD thesis are analyzed.– The third part presents the moral dilemma that the PhD student may face in scientific research and possible solutions to this dilemma.
