Summary/Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems have a complex structure, impacting the generated risks, both acknowledged and potential, the identification of the actors involved and of their roles and responsibilities, as well as the manners and means of governance and regulation. The structural elements of AI systems – infrastructure (mostly cloud); AI models; AI applications and services – each bear features, roles and vulnerabilities that we are called to address if we seek to pursue the responsible and beneficial development and use of AI. Self-regulation, national or union-level or regional regulations and international regulation and cooperation are all interdependent and necessary levels to foresee, prevent and mitigate risks.
