Summary/Abstract: Culture, which appears as a reflection of collective consciousness, has affected societies in a wide range of ways and it has offered many areas of performance to humankind. One of these areas of performance is folk storytelling and it ensured the transfer of our cultural heritage to future generations. Turkish folk storytelling begins with epic and it extends to the novel, one of the cornerstones of modern culture. The formation and performance of folk stories, which are genres based on narration that reflect the socio-cultural structure and world view of the period in which they emerged by living in the oral tradition of the people, develop within the framework of certain rules in the tradition. Motifs, which appear as the smallest elements of stories, positively affect the development of the subject in the story, like the roots that feed the tree. The prayer motif, which generally reflects the material-spiritual culture, value judgments and beliefs of societies and is also the subject of folktales, nourishes and shapes the main subject in the stories. The prayer motif in the folk tales which are the subject of the study; It has tried to determine which troubles, problems and difficulties the characters expressing their wishes take refuge in prayer. The role of prayer in overcoming the difficulties encountered has been examined. In addition, it is mentioned how prayer, which is a spiritual cure for depression and despair and provides psychological support to the individual, takes place in Turkish folk tales, one of the narrative-based genres of folk literature, and at what stages it is used. Prayer motifs Turkish stories have been discussed in terms of subject; To have a child, to get out of a difficult situation, to reunite with a lover, to heal, to pass through water, to gain victory, to receive a response from a lover, to gain the skill of love, for the resurrection of the dead person, on marriage, to die and the others.
