The festival of all festivals. Notes on the commodification of culture

Summary/Abstract: The changes taking place in the financing of culture in recent years have been very disquieting in nature. Slowly increasing budgets have been accompanied by a profound change in the structure of expenditures, with large, cost-intensive events occupying a more and more important place. At the same time, budgets are limited to cultural institutions. The festivalisation process described in the text is being accompanied by a deeply disturbing process – the instrumentalisation of culture – which is accelerating at an alarming pace before our eyes.
