Summary/Abstract: The topic of the paper is related to the identification of alternative forms of education in the higher education system, namely distance and online, the field of application, analysis of challenges and opportunities in their application in an electronic environment. The need for general digitization of the educational process, in accordance with the European strategy in the field of digital technologies, is also justified. A case study was also considered, through which it is proposed to emphasize the opportunities and reduce the potential threats in learning in an electronic environment.
